Looks like the bullet entered at an angle, from the top leading towards the back-center of the tower. The hard drive(s) are typically stored in the front bottom of the tower (Bottom center of picture if it showed the whole thing). I'm not familiar with that case, did they claim the computer was completely disabled and data unrecoverable from that single bullet entry?
If it hit the raid controller I'll could be troublesome. You would need to setup the new raid controller, or perc, in the same order or the drives would erase themselves.

They recovered data from hard drives recovered from the WTC implosion. They have the tech to recover something hit by a bullet.
