How is it Cusack always seemed like a laid back chilled kind of guy but the past year or two he comes across as just furious and deranged. Same with people like Ron Perlman, Stephen King and Keith Olberman

Good question. Ron Perlman is an absolute fuckwit and he may just be sincere with all his shit. Surely Cusack knows better though, King and probably Olbermann too.
