It sounds to me that there is still some kind of cast system going on in those villages. The fact that the police and others thought so very little of adoptees or orphans and then defended a "fine upstanding citizen" speaks volumes to me. I think this is still going on all over the world actually. As soon as some famous or beautiful child of employed well adjusted people goes missing it is broadcasted everywhere. This is not so for the indigent and homeless and those considered on the lower rungs of the ladder of success. Thoroughly disgusting and I don't know how we can ever change this. Horrid. @think
Yes, I noticed this even among left-wing people who have money. Even I was raised in this way. I guess it depends on how much empathy you have in general and how much you are able to think out of the box.
Unfortunately, this kind of thinking really prevents the takedown of pedophiles. This is why it is so important to name examples of politicians, judges and policemen who got convicted for sexual abuse. Most people think sexual abuse happens only among poor and uneducated people, and that only filthy looking men are perps.
I remember the first time I met a survivor: A woman who went to college with me. Her father was head of the child protection agency in the city she grew up in. He had raped her from a very young age and told her: 'Try to tell people about it - nobody will believe you anyway.' He was a respected member of the community and since he was head of this agency, everybody thought he must really care about children.
So very true. There are people in my family that still goes to church. There is no point with the older ones. It is ingrained. But I am working on others.
