A former Tory councillor has been found guilty of six charges relating to downloading and distributing indecent images of children, as well as extreme pornography.
Matthew Sephton, 42, was arrested in December 2016 when officers from the National Crime Agency raided his home in Maximus Drive, Altrincham.
They found 31 indecent videos of children and 3,774 indecent still images of children on two iPhones and an Apple Mac computer belonging to him.
His defence had been that a man he knew only as ‘Tom’ had been responsible.
Mr Sephton claimed to have had an ‘ad-lib’ relationship with the man, who he said he met on Canal Street in Manchester’s Gay Village.
But prosecutors described ‘Tom’ as a ‘mythical’ figure who the defendant had ‘made up’ to take the blame for what he had done.
During the trial the court heard a series of messages exchanged via mobile phone ‘chat apps’ between Sephton and another man in which sexual interest in underage boys was discussed.'
