Background on Mulholland, bit of a rabbit hole for conspiracy researchers:

Mulholland was a debunker of spiritualism (also apparently skeptical of hypnosis and didn't use it). He was tasked to evaluate Andriji Puharich and was extremely critical. (Yet: ".... It was revealed years later, in fact, that at the 1953 Chicago gathering magician Mulholland had become 'so frightened of something Puharich did' that he abruptly left the meeting, aborted his Chicago stay and immediately flew back to New York.")

Interesting that Frank Olson was also a skeptic and critical of Puharich. This source claims Olson et. al. stopped by Mulholland's office to drop off a check primarily.

Apparently Mulholland was a womanizer, married but with a mistress known to his wife.

"Also significant is the fact that Mulholland was extremely well connected with circles of power:the Rockefeller family, including Nelson, had been boosters of Mulholland; Mulholland's wife Pauline was related to Barbara Bush, George H.W. Bush's wife; and Pauline was a distant cousin of former U.S. President Franklin Pirece. Pauline herself came from a very wealthy family, and her father, Arthur J. Pierce, was a Brigadier General in the U.S. Army." Some think the Rockefellers funded MKULTRA and Mulholland was keeping an eye on things for Nelson Rockefeller.

So Puharich was later a protege of Uri Geller and was involved in US parapsychological experiments (of "Men Who Stare At Goats" fame). He was also interested in free energy as a pal of Thomas Bearden.
