The crowd is all wearing black, like some kind of cult and Black Mass. They murder the baby and hack it apart and eat it, then try to beat/rape the mother to death. All of this is done so the celebrity writer husband can continue to be famous as the sick ritual is some kind of prayer to demons and dark spirits. The male artist character is God. JLaw is Mother Nature. It's supposedly some metaphorical reinterpretation of Genesis, where God is an egomaniac and Mother Nature just wants a baby. God, after much frustration, writes a popular book (the Bible). The house fills up with fanatic cultists who love the book. Mother Nature gets her baby, which is Jesus. Crowd eats it.

Or maybe that is really what happened, they know it, and are throwing it in our faces? Maybe "Mother Nature" (or Virgin Mary) and the baby eaters had a bloodline split? Dunno. Spitballing.
