I'm not sure if it is in one of the segments of this show or another but I believe that Jaycee wears a ring that she had on when she was kidnapped. She managed to keep it hidden and returned home with it. My bet is that the butterfly was simply the choice of a typical little girl.
What I think means something in all of this is the number of times probation officers visited the house during her captivity and the number of complaints that were not investigated. What could appear to be local agencies covering up such activities.
From my experience, the workers are far underpaid and far overworked. Resources never seem to actually go to protecting children. Although cover-ups are very real, too
Based on the number of visits made by authorities to the home during Jaycee's captivity, it is clearly obvious there was no 'underpaid and overworked' here. And my experience of many many years is that the ONLY reason workers are underpaid and overworked is they have too many kidnapped kids to take care of. So please, don't expect anyone with a brain to fall for such an explanation. We all know better.

I dont think we are necessarily disagreeing. It is a complex issue.
