I think it is. His actual first name was Balthasar, and unless you suppose his parents were involved in some sort of satanic cult (which might be possible, of course), it's just an everyday name.

Edit: His mother's name was Elizabeth, but she was called Baladine.

She was the lover of Rainer Maria Rilke, a German poet. He called Balthus 'Balthusz', which was later changed to 'Balthus', Balthasar's artist name.
