The opening variation pioneered in this game is the Marshall Gambit. It continues to be one of the most important variations in chess (it was not refuted as a reply to Assange's tweet misleadingly claims.) Marshall intuitively judged his original sacrificial play to be correct - which it was - but to be truly viable it needed an important refinement (11 ...c6 keeping the knight centralised rather than 11 ...Nf6 which Marshall played.). In the position shown, Marshall's attack has run out of gas and a deadly counterattack is about to begin. Capablanca's next move 25 Qf3 is a good one, although not the only way to win (e,g, Stockfish gives 25 a4, activating the Rook on a1, as equally strong.)
