I just looked at it from a top view on google earth, and the building is trapezoidal. The smaller side is where the statue is located. This could account for some of the distortion. I see pictures online that are distorted on purpose to make the "snake" more apparent. It is kind of strange that those two columns look like fangs...

i have a question.
Is that distortion on your snake photo come from a fisheye lens or was that photoshopped?
The extreme curvature in that photo moves the windows and walls close together. This not what the building looks like.
