Look at the fucking justification they use for this girl:

BRAIN DEVELOPMENT? Why is that a reason? This girl was being pimped out and raped daily, and she struck out at her abuser. Why aren’t we focusing on that? Fuck brain development; she shot the guy in self-defense. We shouldn’t have to make up bullshit to justify killing a serial rapist
it's outrageous! i was thrown in jail for slapping open handed my ex-boyfriend because he had a hold of me and was shaking me like a rag doll. i developed bruises in the shapes of his fingers on my arms where he had me up off the ground. so in other words, i was jailed for self defense! i was just trying to get away. before i did he punched me in the head as hard as he could, the entire side of my head swelled up while i was sitting in jail. i was hysterical. the cops were LAUGHING with my ex when they walked up to me. it was all a big joke to them. the judge threw it out of court as a "he said, she said" thing, but the arrest is still on my record.
the fact that they are punishing this girl for self defense shows the sickness of our legal system. she was a CHILD, she should be protected from these cretins at all costs, not punished. it makes me so sick.
