I grew up near and visited this ranch many times with my mom to drop off clothes for the boys, there was a girls ranch too in another location. It’s sad to hear this but I don’t doubt it. Sad because these kids were already abused at home. I knew some of these kids as they went to school in my town. It’s just something no one ever talked about but again, I don’t doubt their stories. Many children are abused in small towns and people just look the other way. My mom was a teacher, she confronted the parents that abused their kids to their face. She could just look at you and make you feel like dirt, I had no doubt that when she confronted the abusers that they at least at that moment felt the fire of guilt in them when she looked them in the eyes and told them what scum they were for harming their kids. That was a long time ago and she is gone now but I know for a fact that those abusive scum were very afraid of her and the kids were very grateful that at least one person had the guts to say it out loud when others just ignored it.

Your mom sounds like she was a good soul. Dad was the same. He taught boxing to troubled boys and helped a lot of them out. After he passed on, many of them came and told me how much they cared about him and wished he was their father.
