A Texas boys ranch residents has been called into questions as claims emerged vulnerable boys were raped, beaten and run over by horses under the noses of the staff.

Former residents have come forward to say they and hundreds of others were systematically abused at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch near Amarillo.

Among the harrowing allegations is that a staff member's wife was having sex with a number of boys at once, that youngsters were raping fellow residents and that boys were run down by horses as punishment.

A statement from the organization Wednesday said it was aware of the claims regarding 'harmful encounters they experienced at Boys Ranch years ago', referring to incidents spanning at least four decades from the 1950s to around the mid-1990s.
