Schumer came out last few days alleging a hoax attempt to connect him to sexual misconduct. I'm betting he did that himself to get out in front on something coming so he can lump that in with the recent "hoax"
This is known as a "pre-emptive first strike confession"(phrase coined by John W. DeCamp). Bob Kerry perfected this strategy circa 80s-early 90s. Someone who worked in intelligence once told me that it was easier to fool people than to convince them that they'd been fooled. Getting the first word in can be extremely valuable in the court of public opinion, because many people will crystallize their opinions based upon the first source that they hear something from.
