It's kind of shocking to hear a Catholic priest talk about this. Are you sure he's Roman Catholic, and not from a breakaway order?

In 1886, Pope Leo XIII had a vision in which he was told to include a prayer to St Michael in Mass, as added protection against a growing evil in the world. The late Victorian period saw the rise of the New Thought movement (a precursor to both the New Age shit and modern magic/occultism/angel worship), as well as secularism, socialism, the general atomization of Western society, etc.

One reason why exorcisms take so long to get approved now is because of the rise of New Age bullshit, as well as a general heightened interest in exorcisms, demons, etc. It was the publishing of that stupid Exorcist book, honestly. There was so much attention placed on it that the Church decided there needed to be absolute airtight evidence, with as little margin for error as possible, before granting one. And yes, there are clear signs that have to be documented and verified.

Catholics don't talk about this stuff. Ever. The most I've ever heard a priest discuss evil in public was before the last election, when the redpill-as-fuck Millennial priest in my parish would give his homilies about why it was a sin to vote for the Democrats.

Regardless of whether or not you believe in the devil, it's not a stretch to imagine that unaccountable, above-the-law politicians and elites would find the occult appealing. In Genesis, Satan essentially promises that if you just listen to him, you can be gods in your own time. It feeds into the conceit of power, the arrogance, the depraved desire to indulge every single sick impulse they have. And especially if you don't believe in anything, why not? Why not con some underage boy into sex? Why not participate in a black mass? What's the harm?
