The Dems are a destroyed party. Crushed beyond any former recognition. The one move they do have, that works, is to wipe the slate clean and start over with a new slate of fresh faces and a new agenda. After that it is the work on the ground. If they start now, they might be able to mount a credible challenge in eight years.
Right now they need to be clearing out the dead wood - much as Trump is doing the same in the Republican party. It is a slow process.
The longer the Dems waste time before cleaning house, the less time they will have to rebuild their political machine - and they might miss the post Trump window of opportunity. In fact, if they keep on like this, they might lose their entire party. It has happened before to other political parties, it can happen to the Dems as well.
