According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, investigators discovered several DVDs that showed nude under-15 year-old girls at
Watsuki’s Tokyo office. Similar DVDs were also reportedly found at his house."

Japan must be one of the most subtlety paedophilic places i have been. I don't know how your friend could say that.
There are book/magazine chains much like our WH Smith in the UK, Borders i guess in the US
"Manga" is split into sections, depending on your interests dystopia, scifi, horror etc. Then there are sections that i am not entirely sure what they were about but the manga was mainly scantily clad school girls. The men browsing these sections were all literally 70+. Akihabara is the manga district in Tokyo and they have sex dolls that resemble prepubescent girls.
Don't get me wrong, i absolutely loved Japan as a place. The people welcoming, friendly and helpful. Everything is done right. Trains are never late. The cities are SPOTLESS. I don't think i could reiterate how clean Japan is. How orderly and respectful they are as a nation.
Myself and my bf could not fathom how conservative the japs are and them BAM. Glorified manga child porn and weird child like sex dolls. Its still something i dont understand.
When we came back from our travels we watched a documentary about the applicants/contestants for the largest KPOP? girl group in Japan and it was also very twisted. Grown men 45+ following girls as young as 10 as they perform on stage. They are superfans who literally live and breathe for these little girls.

There one horrifying anime called Bonu no Piku that someone showed me and it horrified me and made me sick. It's litterally an anime about a grown man having relationships and sex with little boys. All countries have been infested even the ones with strong cultral backgrounds and histories. Sad
