If Daniel Pye was arrested with Laura Silsby and VOAT didn't explode about this months ago, it would not reflect very well on this investigation would it?

Why do you say that, Are_we_sure?

I say that because he was arrested on Oct. 13, 2010.

Silsby was arrested in Jan 2010. She got a six month sentence and was out of the country by Oct 2010.

So the reason Voat didn't explode about what this person twitter is claiming is because it never happened.

This is looking for contact between the two BEFORE the arrests. Danny Pye was a known & major contact for missionaries as well as some government agencies at the time. I'm looking to see if they were connected. He was instrumental in getting hotel rooms for aid workers. A cursory search shows he was not part of her group. I'm looking to see if they were in contact at any time or have contacts in common.

I was replying to this meme from twitter which is incorrect. It makes an incorrect claim. Pye was not arrested with Silsby and Clinton did not intervene on Silsby's behalf.

From what I remember in Wikileaks they (Clinton) kept a very close eye on situation & negotiated their release.

They being the State Department. [Which is acompletely normal] (https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/emergencies/arrest.html)) part of the consular services available to every American. Read this page and see what the US government can and cannot do.

Arrest or Detention of a U.S. Citizen Abroad

One of the highest priorities of the Department of State and U.S. embassies and consulates abroad is to provide assistance to U.S. citizens incarcerated abroad. .... We cannot:

Get U.S. citizens out of jail State to a court that anyone is guilty or innocent Provide legal advice or represent U.S. citizens in court Serve as official interpreters or translators Pay legal, medical, or other fees

The State Department also monitored the Amanda Knox case, where she was falsely convicted of murder in Italy. In fact, the State Departmet was criticized for acting too slowly and not getting someone out to where she was being held. She didn't have a lawyer where the police questioned her. Consular services is all about ensuring Americans are given their full legal rights overseas.

The people who promoted the Silsby-Clinton hoax knew that many people would not know about consular services and assume any State Department interest in her case was a personal interest. This was a deliberate deception. On smaller cases the emails would have been handled at

They absolutely did not negotiate for their release. The other Baptists were let go because the judge believed them that Laura Silsby made all the arrangements and they were following her and thought she had taken care of things. Silsby was convicted and sentenced to 6 months.

There was a report in the English Press with no details and no followup that Bill Clinton went down there to negotiate on their behalf. This was false. Bill had gone to Haiti on behalf of the UN. In left Haiti and the Baptists were all still behind bars. The decision to release them was from a Haitian Judge. The Haitian Prime Minister criticized this decison.

The State Department shot this idea down

State Department rebuffs call for Clinton intervention in Haiti case

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will not get directly involved in the case of the 10 Americans detained in Haiti on child abduction charges, a State Department spokesman said Tuesday. "It would be highly unusual for the secretary of state to intervene in a case involving the judicial process of another country," spokesman P.J. Crowley said in an off-camera question-and-answer session. ... "We have had regular consular access and meetings with the 10 American citizens," Crowley said. "I believe we have facilitated getting medicine or other needs to our citizens. We are doing exactly what we would do with detained Americans anywhere in the world. "As to intervening directly in the case, we are very respectful of the Haitian government and of Haitian law." "This is a Haitian legal process. The matters right now involve whether these individuals have broken Haitian law. We have talked to Haitian officials in general terms about their ability to conduct this procedure... The State Department also has ruled out any special role for former President Bill Clinton in a possible release of the Americans. "It is unnecessary for former President Bill Clinton to play the role of intermediary as he did in North Korea in the case of the journalists being held," Crowley told CNN on Monday. "The situation in North Korea and the situation in Haiti are dramatically different. In Haiti there is a functioning government with which we have diplomatic relations and established channels to monitor and deal with bilateral issues. North Korea is an opaque society with which we have no diplomatic relations."
