Snowden might mean don't keep our heads buried in the sand. Staying safe would mean posting on Facebook, loving Google, Monday night football and Christmas shopping in October (had to put that in there because of my disgust with Christmas decorations in stores already). Staying safe is believing every lie those in power want us to believe. Staying free means we wake the fuck up, draw our lines in the sand and say "No more! We are taking our country back!".
OOH yes the Christmas decorations drive me nuts too! I would love for us to be able to draw a line in the sand. They are so sure of themselves and cocky.
