It's pretty fucked up that the defendant can plead guilty and effectively shut down the voices of the victims and nullify their day in court.

Coincidentally I read about this today. Good news: victim impact statements are made at sentencing and parole hearings.

By the way, did anyone else think this sounded weird (near end of OP article)?
