How are IP adresses going to identify people? Most are using DHCP through their ISP and how do we know who connected to the websites as people use NAT. Which means that all people connecting fron the network with that IP gets the same "face" or "identity". What is the goal here? It's never been usful with pirates as an example. If there an open or unsecure wifi hotspot on an IP then anyone could connect.

That's what the warrant is for. It specifies what they are looking for. There's a good chance that we're right and that what they're looking for is merely a set of IP's coming up over and over. They will use this to establish that an organization which they already have in their sights was the source of numerous key posts. That helps greatly to prove that they intended to commit crimes at the event. They already arrested hundreds of the perps - they don't need IP's to nail them, and it's NOT generally illegal to post rude things in these forums. It IS illegal to organize criminal acts, and just because they used a website doesn't make it less enforceable.
