He's not the first one to use this, this was already a twitter meme regarding the Russian investigation. Hannity is responding to this use. A friend of Comey's has used this several times on Twitter.
He's even gotten to a few BOOMS! as well.
I think the first time he used this was before Comey testified to Congress
I'm probably being confusing. Seems their stuff after Won't Get Fooled Again, Baba O' Reilly, My Generation, Mobile, etc. wasn't up to snuff, mediocre. I grew up on Tommy, and Quadrophenia yes was amazing. Townshend was a genius.
I think he was definitely fiddled with. Always seemed a very ANGRY person - smashing guitars etc. But I've always given him the benefit of the doubt because he may have just been trying to come to terms with his past. He was one to break the cycle.
Many geniuses are pervs. It's still controversial about Townshend and the porn, claims he was doing research for a book, cause he himself was molested. Haven't checked in a while, but to my knowledge they accepted this and let him slide. Several of his songs deal w/ child molestation. "Fiddle About." Elton John got a pass for carrying that child porn pic in his wallet.
You're right - they did let it "slide". But it's of little consequence when you hear that same "it was for research purposes" claimed by many as a defence. And yes, the abuse related songs may well be reminiscent of his personal history but they also may not. We don't know for sure, but I understand how your being a fan will possibly skew your perception in the opposite direction to mine. I'veHad my share of shocks that some old heroes of mine are mired in this filth - sadly, Townshend has to be added to the list for me.
Add: FYI Elton is on that list too.
@DerivaUK To be honest I had an 'awakening' many years ago, and I don't care for these people anymore, no celebs, they are altogether vanity, worth nothing to me. I'm just being objective when I say 'genius,' and factual. I have always been skeptical of Townshend, my money would be on guilty I'm afraid. I just don't buy the story. And even if he was molested, we know many become molesters themselves. No, no heroes for me, none mortal. Edit: You know, I hung around w/ a guy who knew Blondie, just for a few days, I was like a little puppy, and he was nice as can be, and Blondie (I hear) was also. Back then I would never have imagined her being in that cannibal spirit cooking crap.
I long sometimes for that bliss of ignorance. When I successfully manage to red pill someone and they call me up excitedly with some new fact or horror they've just 'found' and absorbed, I'm glad they're now waking, but a part of my heart bleeds for them and I admit to a pang of guilt at being responsible for destroying their world in some respects. This stuff is destructive all round. But we keep battling on, for there ain't no going back now, hey?
No, no going back, onward thru the fog. I know exactly what you're talking about. The cognitive dissonance upon finding out these things can bring a type of depression along w/ it. I've experienced that. That's why I am reticent to even bring things up often. Cause I feel guilty, as you say, for being a part of, or responsible for, their bitter sweet experience.
That's because those songs were among the very best ever in history.
I mean Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O' Reilly are the very peaks of rock music. Some songs have equaled them, but none are better. It's kind of interesting that both of the songs are part of a failed project that Townshend couldn't bring to fruition. I wonder what it would have been like if he was able to pull off his ambition.

I love the Who.
Do you have a question for me?
bopper ago
The question is in the song. This song was from a very disappointing album of theirs following their previous great one btw.
Tell me this time tested song done live doesn't make you feel good.

You have Who By Numbers as great? I never had that one. Or are you thinking of Quadrophenia which is a masterpiece.

Until he started buying kiddie porn that is. Surely?

Break the cycle how? He's in with the rest in my book. Being abused in the past is no excuse and no defence.
icuntstopswearing ago
By not foisting the sins done to him on others.
DerivaUK ago
I hear you, but neither of us know that for sure, either.
bopper ago
Exactly, you may be right, that would explain his anger and craziness, which was very real.
That would be nice.

I'm with you. I've lost many of my once thought 'heroes' to this ever expanding knowledge. I seek no more.

Ignorance is bliss. "With the increase of wisdom comes sorrow." I hear you.

I had no idea he was trying to do a project way back then. I saw them live in Houston in early '70s. Only time. Don't even remember it. Wonder why.
