Another thing that puzzles me is that now the Swedes have dropped the rape case, the only charge outstanding is that Assange skipped bail. There's no extradition request from the US, so why doesn't Assange leave the Ecuadorian embassy and go to court? Skipping bail is not such a big deal. I'm not sure what the logic is behind Assange continuing to seek refuge in the embassy.

Because he would immediately be arrested by UK authorities and then extradited to the US and presumably even the death penalty hasn't been ruled out by the US for Assange's "treason."

Yes, that's Assange's story, but there isn't actually an extradition request.

Does the US consider that he has committed treason against them?

If so, then there would be an extradition order.

Possibly death sentence.
