As someone who has been the object of affection of a teenager for many years, I don't really see much to get all bent about in this story as Macron was 15 years old. He apparently persistent in his intentions and he also shoulders co-parental responsibilities... Meets the most basic definition of continued intent on Macron's part.
Yes, the French DGAF because the French don't infantilize their young people (or young adults) against their will. What I mean by this is that young people who are determined to accomplish certain things uncommon for people in their age group (not just romantic, but also work, travel, etc.) will not be "protected against their will from themselves". It's called "Laisser vivre" (let people live "their" lives... i.e. personal choice and goals trumps all).
The caveat is the power imbalance between young adults and actual adults (those of us who have attained adulthood via practical independence).
So what happened to my 18 y.o. "pretendant"? He is quite grateful for the head start I gave him in life and still running the business I set up for him 10 years ago with much success. And it is because I told him from day 1 about the many caveats of our relationship and that I would continue to look for a partner my age (which I have found). Everybody still happy.
A lot of teens like older women, they are horny and will chase anything. The problem is that she was his teacher and he was 15, not 18. There is a big difference in 3 years.
I agree with you. We do not know the intimate details of their romance aside from Macron's avowed interest in her so it's just a case of two people being widely mismatched in age who appear to be a pretty successful couple nevertheless. It's the reverse gender of Celine Dion and Rene Angelil (who started managing her at 12) and have become a pretty famous and close couple. for now I'll be more worried about the people who are sounding the alarm about R. Kelly keeping women as slaves.
