It needs to be the death sentence if the conviction is certified. That will scare the hell out of pedophiles as they know deep down they are on the road there but have submitted to the self-coercion.
Someone under self-coercion might know full well what he doing is wrong. But he's so far gone he only has one choice. Self-denial is no longer possible but for a miracle of God's grace.

by self-coercion do you mean telling themselves what they are doing is ok? are that they won't get caught?
