Certainly part of it. There are 7 billion people now in the world. In 1950 there were 2.5 billion. About 1 billion live on $1 a day or less, 3 billion on $2 a day or less. Makes it easier to nab or even buy children. Parents may (as was the case in Haiti) be told that their kids would get a better life if adopted.
