So Ronald Bernard says that 8,000 people run the world?
Interested people might enjoy watching this movie, Half Moon Street, from 1986. It's a great movie in its own right, starring Michael Caine and Sigourney Weaver.
But if you want to see something enlightening, starting at 6:20 watch the scene where an investment banker claims that 5,000 "people who count" run the world.
That's just about right given the increased size of the banking business of the last 30 years.
The story was written by Paul Theroux (father of British TV personality Louis Theroux.) How did a writer like Theroux know exactly the same thing as Bernard, who was an actual banker. Theroux was quite well known for hobnobbing with the elites, so it's likely he incorporated a nugget he learned from a banker into his story of international intrigue, but we'll probably never know for sure.
