Two things, he's either stoned, or he's like my brother and always smiles and laughs when he's most uncomfortable. My mom used to beat his ass with a yard stick and he would laugh the whole time even though it hurt. He never really grew out of that either.
People react in all kinds of ways when they're in pain. On the surface, with one viewing, I can't judge his reaction one way or another. Certain families have dynamics, where emotional pain is unacceptable to show. Maybe the family leans more to becoming stoic in their grief?
I agree, he was smiling for sure but it didn't look like a happy smile. They had to have a million different things going through their heads trying to figure out what the hell is happening. A nervous smile probably caught Podesta's attention more than anything.
