From the article:
Victims of clerical sex abuse have reacted furiously to Pope Benedict's claim yesterday that paedophilia wasn't considered an "absolute evil" as recently as the 1970s.
In his traditional Christmas address yesterday to cardinals and officials working in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI also claimed that child pornography was increasingly considered "normal" by society.
"In the 1970s, paedophilia was theorised as something fully in conformity with man and even with children," the Pope said.
"It was maintained - even within the realm of Catholic theology - that there is no such thing as evil in itself or good in itself. There is only a 'better than' and a 'worse than'. Nothing is good or bad in itself."

He is correct. Don't get me wrong, the Church should know better, but concern about child abuse, including child sexual abuse, is a fairly recent phenomenon. Russ Cheit goes into a bit of detail about this in his Witch Hunt Narrative, as does Philip Jenkins in his Decade of Nightmares.

Jesus was always concerned about child abuse. Anyone who (blasphemously) calls himself the 'holy father' should uphold that, regardless of "the times."

In the gospel of Luke 17:2 KJV: "It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones."
