The elderly lady could tell the color of shirt that the woman who was trying to hide from her in the dark? Makes no sense.

indeed... and like... plum is relatively specific in shade... but to distinguish it in the dark whilst it's trying to be hid... major stretch.
the comment on the emotional atmosphere was also strange... why would that really need to be reinforced... especially 10 years after the fact.
