The idiot only had a cursory knowledge of the scenario and acted out like a juvenile, that is, due to conflicting police reports, if it was real at all. This article suggests a focus of the 'possibility' of violence between Brock and Alefantis which would suggest enough time for the speculation made here about Welch's true motivation.
