-Brit POP (as oppose to Brit Rock or Brit Glam Rock or Brit Punk or Brit New Wave or Brit Soul etc.

Rules out creeps from The Who and Led Zep., talked about frequently on this board.

I can't think of any legendary British "pop" stars from the 1970s apart from Elton John or Cliff Richard - and I don't think they like 'girls.' Its also worth noting that The Sun are notorious for planting subtle clues - perhaps a pun on a well known song, for example - in articles where they can't name names.

Can anyone guess?

This is the Tom Jones allegation. I'd like to see the look on his face when he hears himself described as 'Brit Pop' although this might be superseded by that in response to 'you're under arrest'
