I can't think of any legendary British "pop" stars from the 1970s apart from Elton John or Cliff Richard - and I don't think they like 'girls.' Its also worth noting that The Sun are notorious for planting subtle clues - perhaps a pun on a well known song, for example - in articles where they can't name names.

Read my comment. Yes, I remember an article about it. This is a very sad story. Her whole life was ruined and he plied her with champagne. She needs to get therapy, so that she can get on with her life. Hopefully, whoever it is will not get one of those slaps on his wrist.
