God didn't tell Abraham to kill his son, God told Abraham to offer his son Issac as a burnt offering, which is a direct foreshadowing of how God would sacrifice His Son Jesus for our sins. Old Testament is the Law of Moses, New Testament is Grace through Jesus Christ.
I'm pretty sure sacrificing him as a burnt offering would kill him. Even though it was only a test god did tell him to do it. Doesn't matter if it's old testament or not. Christians can do all the mental ju jitsu they want to picking and choosing which parts they want to follow but that doesn't change what is written.
Jesus said this about the old testament:
“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 5:18-19
Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” (Matthew 5:17)
Here's a prophecy of Jesus Christ before He became flesh and how Jesus was the only sacrifice to satisfy God. Jesus fulfilled what the prophet Isaiah prophesied
Isaiah 53 1-12
1 Who has believed our message?
And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
2 For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot,
And like a root out of parched ground;
He has no stately form or majesty
That we should look upon Him,
Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.
3 He was despised and forsaken of men,
A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
And like one from whom men hide their face
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
And our sorrows He carried;
Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.
6All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He did not open His mouth;
Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,
And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,
So He did not open His mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment He was taken away;
And as for His generation, who considered
That He was cut off out of the land of the living
For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due?
9 His grave was assigned with wicked men,
Yet He was with a rich man in His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.
10 But the LORD was pleased
To crush Him, putting Him to grief;
If He would render Himself as a guilt offering,
He will see His offspring,
He will prolong His days,
And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.
11 As a result of the anguish of His soul,
He will see it and be satisfied;
By His knowledge the Righteous One,
My Servant, will justify the many,
As He will bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great,
And He will divide the booty with the strong;
Because He poured out Himself to death,
And was numbered with the transgressors;
Yet He Himself bore the sin of many,
And interceded for the transgressors.
Prophecy of Jesus blessing all nations of the earth, because Abraham obeyed The Voice of God, Genesis 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
Jesus fulfilled the Law by living a sinless life and dying on the cross for our sins and he fulfilled the prophets by making true what the prophets prophesied by becoming the perfect sacrifice. John 19:30 - When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
We are not saved by the works of the law, but we are saved through grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2:8-9For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
If we still lived under the law of moses, then we will still be sacrificing animals, thank God Jesus fulfilled the prophecy in Isaiah 53 and Genesis 22:18

makes sense to me. If you do not believe in a higher power why not do what you want. No moral code to live by.

So by your own rationale the only reason you are not molesting kids is because you think you'll go to heaven when you die?

A true follower in Christ, relies on God for their moral authority, because God is Holy and wiser than humans.

So if god told you to kill your child you would?
Spiritual_War ago
God wouldn't tell me to do that. God commands us to not kill, but instead He commands us to love one another.

God told Abraham to kill his son.
