It's unusual because if you were serious enough about your Moloch worship that you are going to make sacrifices to it, why would you sacrifice a real chicken to a god that only accepts child sacrifices. Since we know that 'chickenlover' is slang for someone who has sex with young boys, the email could be interpreted as they are sacrificing a child in order to try and influence the decisions being made.
