Remember, as well, that these things can be cracked by NSA, CIA, and other spooks if they want to know what you're up to. But that doesn't mean drop your VPN or "give up", especially if you already are using one. Here's a remark FBIAnon made re: tracking, and I think it makes complete sense.

"It does not matter. Any agency can find any computer working right now. What you have to do is get lost in the noise. Do not do anything out of your ordinary behavior and you will be fine."

So, if you currently search in the clear, for example, and are concerned, it would be best not to suddenly start deploying all the privacy controls at once, as it would be more likely flagged, since it isn't your normal behavior. If you wish to deploy more secure controls, do it gradually and in as muddy a manner as you can think up.

As an IT pleb, I can confidently hypothesize that traffic monitoring of this nature can and will include some amount of AI/automated controls to flag more "interesting" patterns for further "research" by agents or other filters.
