In no way am I trying to take away from anything that you're doing... I think it's great that you're bringing this awareness to people. However...
Personally, If I see marker on poster board is the fastest way to get me to walk right on by. In my mind, what I'm seeing is a person who cares enough to be out on the street spreading awareness but not enough to put time into making a sign that people are going to appreciate and want to engage with. Not saying that's the case here at all but I'm just trying to help. It really comes down to how the topic is being presented. Look at it like a marketing strategy I guess.
If you want, I'd be more than happy to put together a high res file that you could take to a sign shop or someone with a vinyl cutter and you could make some really nice looking boards. It really is such a trivial thing but if a cheap professional looking board can get you 10% more engagement/day that's a HUGE difference in the long run.
Again. Not trying to shit on what you're trying to accomplish. Just trying to help. Keep it up, man.
I'm gonna actually have to respectfully disagree with you on that (and I'm a graphic designer too). When I see a handmade sign, I actually feel that person is more authentic. I feel the printed signs reek of paid protestor. And I have designed and printed my own signs (Tea Party protests). Think about when we are watching the "news" and they show the Antifa or BLM. When you see those professionally printed signs, don't you get that feeling? Although the upside to using printed signs would be the ability to incorporate some imagery such as the instagram pics or disgusting monstrosities that those freaks refer to as "art".
Totally see what you're saying. Guess I didn't really think about it from that angle.
The reason I mentioned having a 'decent looking' sign was because I saw some woman on my way to work the other day holding a sign upsidedown with scribbles all over it. The only thing I could make out of what she was trying to say was the word Trump and the word Russia. If i even remotely agreed with the point she was trying to make I probably would have stopped to say hold your sign right side up and people might take you seriously but I don't so she continued to stand there looking like a fool.
My biggest fear with this whole 'movement' is to have it go the way of the occupy stuff. LOADS of people with no clear message just shouting.. This stuff is too important to go that route.
Just trying to help where I can with the skills I have.
