As an aside, can you explain why 4chan threads always appear archived/closed? Do they hit some kind of post limit? Who closes them? Perhaps 4chan becomes easier to follow if one is on it frequently, but from an external observers viewpoint, the format looks busy and hard to follow at times.

Threads get closed at a post limit, and when they get 'buried' by new threads (falls of page-something).
I think the format being harder to access is kind of the point, actually, not unlike how the content itself might keep most people on arm's length.
