All higher reasoning aside... I'm a long-harping advocate for learning to drive manual transmission, and for teaching your kids to do this. If you don't have a vehicle, find a friend who does and borrow it, and/or there are used car dealerships that will help you with this. It's easy to learn, it can be fun, and it's a potentially USEFUL skill. There's no good reason not to, so go do this, and have fun. Amen.
