Nature of the battle I think. Those most likely to acquire power have been those most likely to abuse it. Centuries go by and the power is left relatively unchecked. Festers into the perversion of spirituality and perversion of other domains. Then systems spawn that create hierarchical protection and proliferation of the perversions.
At the moment you can liken humanity to a human with BPD. Childhood trauma creating foundationally flawed mental frameworks that most psychologists steer clear from. It might take decades to heal but we have no other choice. My children will not grow up in a world where this exists.
