Here's my issue, he should have put out this message the minute he disappeared. It was thoughtless not to. Far too much drama from him for me, and his usual hyperdefensiveness and paranoia continue to put me off. There are a whole lot of people under the gun out there and they don't disappear without a word.

He helped/helps spread the word, that is more than enough.
