When you point a gun at someone that is assault. In legal terms, assault is the threat of violence and battery is its commission. Pointing a gun was always part of the original stories.

In everyday language assault is to hit someone.

Silly question, what's it called when a mad red neck with an assault rifle fires into a closet that may be hiding children when he entered a restaurant containing that closet looking to save children being held against their will.........in closets?
