Polk County Fire Rescue Timeline of Indian Lakes Brushfire

At 11:19 a.m. Polk County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to 7200 HWY 630 E, between Walk-in-Water Rd and Deland Ave for a large brush fire.

At 11:31 a.m. Polk County Fire Rescue crews arrived on scene.

At 11:41 a.m. the fire began to spread quickly due to heavy wind and fuel. Several homes were in danger and needed immediate protection.

At 12:00 p.m. the Florida Forest Service arrived. Their mission was to stop to the wildfire from spreading. Polk County Fire Rescue’s mission was to protect structures. The scene remained very active with mutual aid assistance from multiple agencies.

At 1:15 p.m. a total evacuation was ordered in Indian Lake Estates. County Road 630 was also closed.

At 1:30 p.m. State Road 60 was closed.

At 4:15 p.m. rain helped douse the fire, but did not extinguish it. Firefighters focused on battling hotspots.

At 7:00 p.m. the Red Cross opened a shelter at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 16 N 3rd St, Lake Wales, 33853

At 2:30 a.m. people who live in Indian Lakes Estates allowed to go home.

At 5:03 a.m. roads that were closed reopened.
