1 out of 10,000 people have this rare eye condition usually discovered at birth. I work in the eye care field and occasionally see this condition.

I was about to ask if anyone else knew a person in real life with this condition. My best friend's sister had it when I was growing up. I think their mom was probably technically retarded and their dad drank himself to death when they were little. They didn't have much supervision. They were allowed to drink at parties when they were real little, even given alcohol in their bottles to keep them quiet. My friend was pregnant and miscarried at 13 and the sister with coloboma became a swinger when she was older. God only knows what happened to them. Sadly, they were both nice girls. They seemed to be doing their best.

I don't think it's possible that their family was involved in any global conspiracy with the coloboma, but it's weird that they were like that and the older sister had it. They called it "cat's eye" and said it happened because the drunk dad beat the retarded mom when she was pregnant.
