He was a transplant surgeon and researcher, connected to the highest echelons of NY media; plenty of possible ways to intersect with organ trafficking -- actually he'd be hard pressed to avoid it. He seems to have gotten quite a large amount of investment capital behind his various ventures. There's a good deal to look into. Researching drugs that prevent the rejection of transplants might require lots of organs to experiment on. Or he was depressed because his beautiful wife just divorced him. But he lived across the street, they were friends, shared the kids. Who knows?
