David appears to be going through a classic disruption campaign where they attack different areas of your life to make you appear to go crazy (which discredits you) or make life so uncomfortable (lose your spouse, job, house etc) that you take your own life (supposedly). He seems to be taking the fight public bc he doesn't have other options.
