I am an artist and have had shows all over the US Canada and Europe. This performance art, of which on occasion I have been involved, is usually kinda silly. There are famous performance artists who have shot themselves with a gun and literally taken shits on canvas or whatever. This baffles some of us in the art world as this form of pure exhibitionist BS, or self mutilation is shocking but nothing else. Yet, the institutions like MOMA endorse this. A friend of mine who is a great artist, calls it the Culture of Death. It is killing the beauty and rewarding dark and empty, self mutilating poseurs. Sadly, the university students in art programs are encouraged to eat this vomit. Excuse the pun but it is twisted. Art serves as a reference throughout history. Some argue that the true historians of any time period are the artists. And yes, artists have been and continue to be shocking and shake up what one considers art But at the same time, we are living in a dark period, devoid of beauty. Culture of Death.

Well, Chris Burden didn't shoot himself, and he was expecting the shot in question to just graze his arm and not be a direct hit. But ok. Never heard of the other guy, probably some nobody.
