Just watched this video from h3h3 where Ethan shares that he is seeing a current trend on youtube with the "Toy" genre increasing in popularity. I know that trends do happen naturally, however the fact that this specific genre has exploded on youtube within the last month or so seems very unnatural. I feel that there are people behind this that are paying highly viewed youtubers large sums of money to upload videos following this theme in order to obfuscate their original creepy videos in order for them to blend into the current "trend".

Might I offer a counter argument? Maybe, given that Christmas was about a month ago and thousands and thousands and thousands of kids are getting iPads and tablets and phones of their own for the first time. With parental restrictions, the YouTube catelogue shrinks considerably. So maybe the increase in viewership is just kids watching videos about toys they want and YouTube just keeps recommending similar videos. Would that create a surge in demand for those videos? Would the YouTube market try to capitalize on a wave of sudden interest like that? You might be 100% right and it's all coverups and such. But maybe, it's just kids doing kid things.
