Exactly! I am trying to distance myself from the word liberal, which drips with corruption and phoniness. If they turn the word progressive into another vile marketing scam, like David Brock is doing, then I won't use it anymore. I so agree with you that compassion and honesty are what we are looking for.
This is how the Left reorganises: It has to throw out political correctness, and go back to being 'critically thinking humanists'. That is, to hold ALL humanist aspirations in consideration of an issue, instead of cherry picking certain humanist aspirations (racism, sexism, homophobia) and pursuing those with a zealotry so they cant see the humanist woods for the politically correct trees. The economic restoration of americas middle class has good humanist outcomes. The fostering of emotional resilience is as important a humanist aspiration as physical health. The sexual security of children is better supported through maintenance of traditional family units - PC people dont recognise these particular humanist goals or outcomes as they are not on the PC radar - and thats why they are losing credibility.
You will well notice PC people have no comeback when you present any argument of their foolishness in critically thinking humanist terminology - if you use the language of the Right they will just shut down the conversation as sexist/racist etc

Urban dictionary is rather brutal in its definition of 'progressive.'
