I think the PG citizen's investigation makes a good case for future large-scale investigations of this nature to be opened up to citizens, you know like how in recent years science projects started making their big datasets available for the public to help analyse them, which is far less expensive and also got around any issues with insufficient computing power, and of course made the science that the public contribute to with taxes much more transparent and engaging.

Imagine how much more would be discovered, and how much faster, if they just put all those emails online and alongside their own investigation, monitored a place like Voat, where people shared their discoveries and new leads etc. And citizens could put requests in to the FBI if they thought they'd found something that needed further investigation by law enforcement, such as a warrant to enter a premises, or a hidden file on a website that needed checking for CP or whatever.
